highest peak in Luzon : Mt Pulog Benguet, Mt. Province

Mt. Pulog rises out of the northern luzon landscape to an elevation of 9,610 feet (2930m) and has a year round covering of alpine grass although the lower elevations are ringed with a thick forest cover. Mt. Pulog is one of the exceptional places in the country where the temperature hovers in the lower digits, especially during the september to january months. The trail on Mt. Pulog is non-technical and well-organized, but you should drop by the local PAMB office and ranger station for a mandatory course on mountain safety and ecological sensitivity. The PAMB office will require you to hire a guide for 500 pesos for every seven people, and pay the park fee of 150 pesos per person. DENR Baguio City, Tel No. (074) 443 4909

The easiest way to get to Mt. Pulog is through Baguio City, about 5 hours away from Manila by public bus transport (Victory Liner, 8335019-20/ 200 pesos one-way). When you get to Baguio, you can opt to stay overnight at one of the numerous inns or hotels (you can also rent a house), or you can simply purchase last minute supplies and be off on your way! Proceed to DANGWA terminal and find a jeep that can take you to Ambangueg Ranger Station. You can usually hire them for 3,500 pesos, both ways (pay the driver only half, and half again when he comes back to pick you up). CAUTION : Insist with the driver that he MUST drive you all the way to the last ranger station, make sure to get an agreement before you leave Baguio. Do not hesitate to look for other jeepneys if you fail to get a clear nod. Just outside the DANGWA is a market where there are jeepneys along a side street, you can also hire from there although you should beware that they might not be as familiar with the roads. It is a good idea to find a driver who is from that area, or have been there before. Break out your camera! The road to Ambangueg is as scenic as it is dusty and bumpy. You will pass through the Ambuklao Dam along the way, the trip will take about 3-5 hours.
